HTML Elements

Paragraphs

We usually group the main content of web pages into paragraphs. In HTML documents we use paragraphs to group related content. This could be text, images and other elements.

Paragraphs are specified to be block-level elements and can be created using the <p> tag.

Code example

<p>
Paragraphs are usually separated by blank lines
because they make it easier to scan through a page.
</p>
<p>This is a separate paragraph</p>

Accessibility

Use as many paragraph elements as appropriate to divide up the content. This makes it easier to skip to relevant paragraphs when using screen readers or other assistive technologies.

Empty body

Do not use empty paragraphs to create additional spacing between elements as they make navigation harder for people who use screen-reading technology.
